Sheebah Honored with Foreign Affairs Award for Elevating Ugandan Culture
Months after being recognized at the 9th ODA Awards in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ugandan music icon Sheebah Karungi has formally accepted the Outstanding Artistry and Cultural Influence Award.
The official handover took place on August 5, 2026, where Ambassador Charles Ssentongo, Uganda’s Chief of Protocol, presented the accolade on behalf of Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo. The event celebrated Sheebah's dedication to projecting Uganda's cultural heritage on both regional and global stages.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the honor highlights the singer's effort in enhancing the nation's international profile, underscoring how cultural diplomacy has become a vital component of Uganda's foreign strategy.
In an official post on X, the Ministry pointed out that Sheebah's work fosters continental trade, tourism, economic engagement, and cross-border relations alongside showcasing Ugandan heritage.
Although the honor was originally bestowed earlier this year in Ethiopia—accepted at the time by Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo—the recent presentation formally brought the trophy to the artist.
Representing the Ugandan Embassy in Ethiopia, officials commended the milestone, framing it as a testament to how the country's creative sector supports African unity and cultural partnerships.
With a celebrated career marked by hits and projects like Nkwatako, Karma Queen, and Samali, Sheebah has built a reputation as a prominent singer and entrepreneur. This latest honor solidifies her standing as a key cultural ambassador taking Ugandan talent to international audiences.
