Producer Artin Pro Directs UPRS Royalties to Families of Late Danz Kumapeesa and Skills on the Beat

In a remarkable act of professional responsibility, renowned producer Artin Pro (born Martin Musoke) has formally instructed the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) to redirect all royalties and allowances due to him to the families of two fallen colleagues: Danz Kumapeesa and Skills on the Beat.

Artin Pro, who has served as a Director at UPRS since August 2024, shared the decision across his social media platforms, noting that his time in leadership has exposed "hard truths" about the vulnerability of creators' families.

“I accepted that role knowing leadership is a service,” he wrote. “When our fellow creators pass on, their families are often left vulnerable, yet the industry continues to benefit from their legacy. That disconnect must be addressed.”

The beneficiaries of this gesture represent two of the most tragic losses in the Ugandan music industry:

Danz Kumapeesa (Daniel Mukisa): The gifted producer passed away in October 2017 following a brutal attack by unknown assailants that left him in a coma for months.

Skills on the Beat (Erisa Mukisa): A more recent loss, Skills passed away in October 2024 at Kiruddu Hospital after a long illness.

Artin Pro’s decision highlights a painful reality: while the music of these producers continues to play and generate revenue, their families are often left without financial support once the creator is gone.

By giving up his own earnings, Artin Pro is calling for a shift in how the industry treats its pioneers. He noted that stepping into leadership widened his view, forcing him to confront how quickly the industry moves on even when the music remains.
